Final...

First and foremost, this class has given me an incredible opportunity in learning the ways to go about writing a speech. The easiest, yet most important part of writing a speech is picking a topic that interests you in some shape or form. Topics of speeches are entirely up to the person writing it, so this is not something that I can dictate.
There are many policies in the world today, so the wide variety of topics to choose from. Once a policy has been chosen, the second step is to choose a way in which people will take well to the delivery of your speech. The area of which you are delivering your speech is very important in how you will deliver it. Whether they are extreme radicals or extreme liberals, your speech must suit the mind frame of those you delivering your speech to. This “mind frame” can be discovered through the process of a political spectrum.
A political spectrum gives the writer ideas of all the different latitudes that exist among the social judgment theory. The key to a successful speech is not changing your audiences’ minds completely, but rather shift their opinions a little bit. This slight shift reveals that your speech was effective and persuasive.
Once your policy, delivery, and stance have been decided upon, you now have a choice of the different rhetoric styles, which the ancient Greeks used within their important speeches.
Logos represents the logical and reasonable elements within the argument of public speech. Pathos involves the emotional appeals within a speech. Finally, but equally as important is Ethos. Ethos describes the particular qualities/reputation of a person (typically within the speaker). Ethos generally deals with the social judgment theory, but more in depth. Check this out to clear up any uncertaintanties with Ethos, Pathos, and Logos.
Once your rhetoric style has been decided, Silva Rhetoricae provides excellent information in the process of adding rhetorical figures to your speech. In doing so, you are making your speech more effective and persuasive. Not only do rhetoric figures add a nice style and appearance to your speech, but they also add extreme quality to your speech. Check out Adam, Ethan, and Allison's Group Blog as they did an excellent job with their particular figures.
Writing a speech is a difficult process because individually, you may feel your speech is adequate, but when read to an audience, it may not be received as well. For this reason, it is important to practice your speech and adjust even the finest of arguments in order to please your audience.
In order to please your audience, you must also pay particular attention to the speed and inflections of every sentence read. This is a difficult process, but in the end your speech sounds more professional and appealing.
Working as a group in order to create a working speech was very helpful. Not only did we have three people working together, but three different opinions. Everyone’s opinion was taken into account as the issues were discussed to make someone more aware of its details or inappropriate details to add into the speech were taken out – all because three people’s mind frames came together as one.

As you may have noticed, I wasn't in class this morning...

I woke up and my throat was swelled shut, I couldn't breathe or swallow. Not to get a pity party, but when my throat gets sore, it hits me ten times worse than most people. Reason being, I have a split uvula. Needless to say, I get really sick and it sucks. I can't talk right now so it's a good thing I'm not delivering our speech!

Since everyone else at this school is sick, I figured I would jump on the bandwagon and get sick myself. Yeahhhhhh not soo good considering I have papers out the ass to write. YAY for an English writing major!

School is killing me right now. I have so much work and whenever I take a break for ten minutes, I feel guilty because I feel like I am wasting precious time. Sorry, I know everyone is feeling this way... this is my own personal venting space.

Happy Birthday KBair!

Something about class today...

I feel that everyone's speeches are going pretty well. I think it's great that you're allowing us to present the speech before we're actually graded. But, you mentioned in class today that our final will be a 2-3 page paper/blogpost. I'm just a little confused on what we would be even writing about, so hopefully that can be cleared up....
